For people enrolled in Medicare, having prescription drug coverage is not only essential for reducing your out-of-pocket costs, but can also prevent you from incurring a Part D late enrollment penalty down the road. For those with Original Medicare, drug coverage will need to be obtained through a standalone Medicare Part D plan.
According to KFF.org, the average Medicare beneficiary will be able to choose from 21 stand-alone Medicare Part D drug plans in 2025.
